ARTIST BIO AND RESUME
Devin Cherubini grew up in low-income housing in Connecticut and settled in Baltimore, Maryland, after studying fine art and creative writing at Maryland Institute College of Art. A modern expressionistic symbolist, Cherubini enjoys melding various media together in surprising ways in order to get the message of his work across. He's had many gallery exhibitions of his fine art, performance art, and spoken word. From New York City to Baltimore and Washington D.C. He also created, promoted, coordinated, and hosted the poetry series "From Our Lips" at Café' Metropol in Baltimore for several years. For his performance art, he uses the stage name Devin Hellfire in memory of a childhood living above the Hell's Angels Club House in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and as an acknowledgement of the poverty and child abuse he suffered and survived. Cherubini’s poetry and illustrations have been published to much praise. Of his work in the anthology Cry of the Invisible, critics said, "Cherubini, one of the book’s poets, is both articulate and candid," (The Baltimore City Paper) and "Cherubini, the poet says, with powerful directness, "I need you to be there for me/ When the razor blade screams." (The Baltimore Evening Sun). Cherubini’s beat poetry manuscript "Heartbeat" was nominated for a Baltimore Artscape Literary Award in 1998. The Baltimore City Paper called the work, "Heroic poems about surviving domestic violence," and—in a second piece—"Cherubini will be the Sun around which the heavenly bodies of poetry rotate. This is why we need poets."
In 2009 a serious spinal injury left Cherubini with a paralyzed right arm, partially bed-ridden, and in constant pain, unable to perform or make art. Doctors told him that he would never use his arm again. After several years of suffering, he finally found a spine surgeon who was able to give him back the use of his arm.
Then in 2014 hormone replacement therapy complications caused him to have serious life-threatening problems. After years of suffering and much struggle. He has made a complete recovery and now he is at last able to create again and is at work on several projects, including a new poetry manuscript, an autobiography, a graphic novel, fine art paintings, drawings and a series of fine art urban photographs about Baltimore life, it's culture and people.

2016 His conceptual performance art band Transexual Fetus released it's first Band Camp album.

2017 He also released his solo project; Heartbeat of Baltimore a spoken word with music Band Camp page.
Devin Cherubini has become a multi-faceted outspoken voice for many oppressed and marginalized people of society using various art forms and media.
He has written a bi-weekly art review column; The HeART Beat of Baltimore which can be found in the LGBT Community newspaper, Baltimore Out Loud.
